It’s 2020. People care about the environment. Green consumers are responsible shoppers, and they expect the same from corporations. People are even ditching businesses that don’t make the grade. Out of a survey of 30,000 people, nearly half said they have boycotted companies as a result of those organizations’ actions.
This study by Nielson confirms that Americans are expecting companies to be engaged in the process of making an impact when it comes to social and environmental matters. The study found that out of 1,000 Americans:
- 68% of millennials bought a product with a social or environmental benefit in the past 12 months
- 87% of consumers will have a more positive image of a company that supports social or environmental issues
- 88% will be more loyal to a company that supports social or environmental issues
- 92% will be more likely to trust a company that supports social or environmental issues
Americans are concerned about the future and recognize that where they choose to spend their money can be a vehicle to influence change. The market is more competitive than ever and practicing sustainability among your brand will give you an edge.
Consumers and companies alike are pushing the green initiative. This bolsters the efforts by other companies to operate with environmental responsibility and inspires green consumers to remain vigilant in holding companies accountable for their actions.
Customers do care about the environment, and utilizing an eco-friendly business and green marketing can improve reputation and brand image, resulting in green consumer loyalty and an all-around positive impact.
